About

El Entremedio

El Entremedio is a digital repository of my curatorial, creative, and critical work, spanning music and music histories, processes of identity- and place-making, and broader histories of cultural expression and transmission.

In the past, I hosted a show called 'First Class Airfare' on KRRC, Reed College's radio station. Now, I broadcast as 'El Entremedio' on KBOO, every 3rd and 5th Thursday from 12:08pm to 2pm. You can find my playlists on this website.

These shows have explored themes spanning from individual musical genre, geographic, and abstract ideas such as cross-cultural exchange across the Atlantic. My goal is to provide meaningful cultural and political context to diverse, engaging forms of musical expression. I put together playlists in the hope to place music in conversation with itself as cultural text. This includes questions like: How does music engage in and complicate community and identity making? What power does music have? For who?

Beyond this, this website hosts writing from research projects on Chicano Soul music and Uruguayan Candombe, which focus on music and genre as tools of identity-making, and claims to political power.
